Mob Wives gets off to a violent start as bank robber's wife Drita Davanzo chokes Renee Graziano

We have had the Real Housewives and seen the children of Orange Country grow up and move to the Hills and onto The City but U.S. reality TV has ventured into the criminal underworld with its latest offering - Mob Wives.
The VH1 show, which aired last night, tells the story of the women left behind after their husbands, fathers and uncles have been sent to jail.
The dramatic premiere saw Karen Gravano the daughter of a former underworld boss- turned federal informant return to Staten Island and the other feisty female characters of the show seem to less than impressed to see her.
Fighting talk: Drita Davanzo (blonde) and Renee Graziano (brunette) were seen having an argument which turned physical when Drita grabbed hold of Renne's throat

Karen’s father famous mob boss turned rat Sammy ‘The Bull’ Gravano has left a lot of people angry in their former home town after putting nearly 100 of his pals behind bars.
Mob wife Renee Graziano, who claims: ‘According to the feds I’m the daughter of an extremely high-ranking mobster,’ makes it clear that loyalty is everything to the mob and tensions boil over to a dramatic and chilling climax when she meets up with former family friend Karen.
We are also introduced to Carla Facciolo and Drita Davanzo are the women left behind with their husbands both currently serving time in jail.

Carla’s husband, who she describes as her ‘soon to be ex-husband’ is in prison for stock fraud – which she doesn’t think is a bad crime. Her father and uncles are also serving time in prison.
Drita Davanzo also has a husband in the slammer but he has been locked up for robbing a bank - this is the second time he has been jailed and has only spent two years at home during their marriage.

MEET THE MOB WIVES

- Karen Gravano - daughter of mob boss-turned federal informant Sammy ‘The Bull’ Gravano  who put over 100 of his pals in jail
- Renee Graziano - daughter of high-ranking member of La Cosa Nostra and former family friend of Gravano, who believes loyalty is everything
- Carla Facciolo - her husband is currently serving time for stock fraud and her father and uncles are also in jail
- Drita Davanzo - wife of jailed bank robber who is serving his second stint in jail. He spent two years at home before returning to jail
These woman are certainly not shy about show their feelings or stating their opinions and they verbalise their feelings with dialogue riddled with expletives and aggressive statements.
And it isn’t just their words that are causing controversy as last nights episode saw Carla Facciolo undertaking a violent workout and a war of words between Renee Graziano and Drita Davanzo ended in blows during a night out.
Make no mistake – these women are tough cookies.
The first show of the series was met with mixed reviews stateside with inevitable comparisons being made between other reality TV shows – most notably Real Housewives.
The LA times posted: ‘As for those other real housewives franchises, their endless squabbles and social climbing antics are rendered rather trivial after you watch the first five minutes of "Mob Wives." The real action, it turns out, is on Staten Island.’
A review on NYDaily News said: ‘For most viewers, it's a glimpse into another world - a world where a glimpse is enough.’
Meanwhile Ken Tucker writing for Entertainment Weekly said: ‘I didn’t come to Mob Wives with high hopes. But this floridly funny, vicariously vicious reality series exerts a vulgar charm.’
