Due to notoriety John Gotti's grandson is in protective custody

John Gotti, grandson of the late mob boss John Gotti, has his own private cell at the Manhattan Detention Complex. He is seen on Aug. 4.

Orange is the new jail suit for the grandson of the late Gambino crime boss John Gotti.

The mob scion, who is also named John Gotti, appeared Friday in Queens Supreme Court on one of his drug cases while wearing an orange jumpsuit — indicating that he’s in protective custody.

Gotti, 23, is being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex in his own private cell due to the notoriety of his last name. He was arrested by the NYPD in August, accused of peddling oxycodone pills.

His defense lawyer Gerard Marrone won a minor victory Friday, getting the drug trafficking case consolidated with an earlier bust in June for possession of painkillers seized by the NYPD during a car stop.

With both felony cases combined, he will get credit for his solitary time in jail toward his sentence if he’s convicted.

“The district attorney’s office was very fair in consenting to this,” Marrone said.

Gotti could face at least 10 years in prison on the oxycodone case. Marrone said there have been plea negotiations with prosecutors, but no agreement has been reached.

Peter Gotti, John Gotti's father, waited several hours for his son's brief court appearance in Queens on Friday.

His dad, Peter Gotti, waited two hours for the brief court appearance in Kew Gardens.
“My heart’s in there,” Peter Gotti told The Daily News, referring to his son.
