Feds play secret recording in court of Philadelphia boss saying how easy it is to kill someone
Chilling secret recordings of a mafia kingpin
telling a "mob rat" how easy it is to take a human life have been played
in court.

Joey' Merlino was heard explaining to associate turned FBI informant
John Rubeo how "easy" it is to kill someone in tapes covertly recorded
in 2014.
The audio was heard during his racketeering trial in Manhattan on Friday.
"It's
simple. Get in the car and shoot you in the f---king head and you're
dead," the 55-year-old told Rubeo and alleged Genovese family capo
Eugene 'Rooster' O’Nofrio.
According
to the New York Post, O’Nofrio threatened to gouge Rubeo's brother in
law's eyes out over a missed $300 interest payment in another recording,
adding the mobster should "straighten him out" himself.
"What do I got to do with him?" O’Nofrio was heard saying during the recording.
"Do
you have to take his eyes out? … I don’t want you to get upset because
he’s your brother-in-law. I don’t know what the f— he thinks he is. Who
does he think he’s f—ing with?"
This comes a day
after revelations some twenty mobsters – including Merlino - were
rounded by the FBI after attending a $30,000 party set up by special
agents.
FBI Special Agent William
Inzerillo said the mob boss was among 20 people who attended the
extravagant "Cosa Nostra Christmas Party" in 2014, which was organised
by the FBI with the intentions of luring members of the alleged criminal
organisation back into the Manhattan jurisdiction.
"We
supplied the money. We paid for the party. Over 20 people attended the
party, and we paid for all of them," Inzerillo testified.
Merlino,
along with key alleged Genovese crime-family members Pasquale 'Patsy'
Parrello and Eugene 'Rooster' O’Nofrio reportedly enjoyed house
specialties like gnocchi Bolognese or fettuccine matriciana completely
unaware their only meeting during the FBI's five-year investigation was
being monitored.
Mob informant John Rubeo helped
orchestrate the sting, even taking money directly from the FBI and
giving it to Merlino to cover he and his wife's airfare.
Rubeo decided to turn on his former boss to avoid facing life in prison over drug charges.
Up to 20 secret recordings – including Rubeo insisting he was "not a scumbag" – have been played for the court.
Merlino
beat three murder charges in 2001. He was jailed for racketeering and
served 12 years in jail before his release in 2011.
His
2016 arrest came during a crackdown on the La Cosa Nostra syndicate.
The group are alleged to have been involved in extortion, loan-sharking,
casino-style gambling and fraud.
The 55-year-old's trial continues.
