Snitch testifies at mob 'smorgasbord' sentencing

Some details on a 2008 mob bust in New Jersey that a prosecutor once called a "smorgasbord of crime" are trickling out in federal court.
All 23 people arrested have pleaded guilty to crimes ranging from illegal gambling and extortion to using a fraudulent bar-code scheme to rip off stores including Lowe's, The Home Depot and Circuit City.
But one defendant, union official Michael Urgola, could withdraw his guilty plea because of recently divulged evidence that could show he was intimidated by reputed Gambino crime family member Andrew Merola.
A government informant currently in the Witness Protection Program testified Tuesday at Urgola's sentencing that Merola told him to go and "slap Urgola around."
A judge postponed Urgola's sentencing for two weeks.
