Raid on pain clinic lands dozens in handcuffs
Broward Sheriff's Office Deputies have arrested dozens of people, including a husband and wife, accused of running a pain clinic.
BSO deputies and the SWAT team swarmed the pain clinic located at 1341 S. Powerline Road, early Tuesday morning. Customers waiting inside the clinic were taken out and placed in handcuffs one by one. The husband and wife were arrested and taken in for questioning.
One woman described the scene. "We looked out, we saw SWAT over there bringing out all the people," said Lilian Orr. "The most ridiculous thing I saw was a man with a little baby in the carriage."
Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti said this bust is the result of a year-long investigation. "They were operating like organized crime. In fact, our intelligence strongly suggest that they had ties to the Colombo crime family," said Lamberti. "So, therefore we went out after them like organized crime. We've charged them with racketeering, trafficking oxycodone, money-laundering and conspiracy."
Lamberti went on to say the couple idealized organized crime. "As you can see these are two portraits that were on the wall of [the suspect's] office. One in John Gotti, the Teflon don of the Gambino crime family, and Marlon Brando from 'The Godfather,'" he said.
BSO Deputies remain on the scene investigating.
